How can Plan B work 72 hours AFTER unprotected sex?

Plan B says that it keeps you from getting pregnant as long as its taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex, but it doesnt work if you are already pregnant. Wouldn't you most likely already be pregnant within a few hours of unprotected sex if it was going to happen?

no, its very unlikely ud be pregnant that fast it usually takes a day or more because the sperm has a long way to travel (for it's size).
